Can I study abroad as part of the Masters?

Yes, students can study abroad as part of the program, either through Erasmus or a Direct Exchange. Please see our page on studying abroad for more information, including the contact details for the international offices of FU and HU. Please be aware that application deadlines for exchanges are often far in advance.

Ideally, we agree on a learning agreement (either official or unofficial) before the exchange to establish which courses will be credited and which options make the most sense. After researching possible classes and planning which of the GH Modules you think they might count towards, please send an email to globalhistory@fu-berlin.de or sign up to Dr Haschemi Yekani's office hours to arrange this

Based on past experiences, we know that details can change during the stay abroad (for example, classes may not be offered), so students should send a brief update if necessary.
It is crucial to maintain communication to avoid any misunderstandings or ambiguities regarding credits or grade calculations later on.

Once you return from your time abroad, we can credit the courses to your transcript - this cannot be done earlier. To do so, please prepare both the transcript from the partner university and your FU Campus Management Transcript of Records. Once you have these documents, please make an appointment during office hours and send your transcripts in advance via email to globalhistory@fu-berlin.de. Please note that every "Anrechnung" needs to be accepted by Prüfungsausschuss Global History and Prüfungsbüro. (Please find a chart with further information about the transfer of grades here, to access this you need to use the FUs VPN)
