Wolfgang Thiele was born in 1990 in Jena, Germany, and visited local schools. In 2010 he joined the B.A. program in area studies at Humboldt University, Berlin, and graduated in 2015, focusing on the political and social history of Taiwan and Japan. He spent two semesters as an exchange student at National Taiwan University in 2012/13. In 2014 he joined the MA program in global history. His research interests include the history of education policies, nationalisms and the entanglements of (former) imperialist center and peripheries during and after colonial rule, especially in East and South East Asia.
