Originally from Karlsruhe in southwest Germany, Sira Berkhan received their Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Heidelberg University in 2020. Within the American Studies program, they specialized in political science and history. While studying at the University of Kentucky for the academic year 2018/19, Sira also developed an interest in sociology. Their undergraduate research ultimately culminated in a thesis on the U.S. women's movement. Their research interests include, but are not limited to, gender history, queer theory, social movement studies, and postcolonialism.
