Otsbal Quirós-González

Otsbal Quirós-González received a BA degree in Social Studies, a BA in History, and a Licentiate degree in the teaching of Social Studies and Civics at the Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica. With more than ten years of teaching experience, he is currently professor at the School of History, and School of Politics, Society and Environment at Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED), Costa Rica. His research field has been focussing on the Middle East and North Africa history, he has given several lectures about the history and politics of this region. Besides, he has been awarded by DAAD scholarship to pursue his postgraduate studies in Germany.

Studying at the MA Global History at Freie Universität and Humboldt Universität zu Berlin will give me more historical and methodological tools to increase my knowledge of the Middle East and Muslim cultures, as well as the cultural and political, interweaves of this region with surrounding areas. I am interested in the Islamism movements during the 19th and 20th centuries, their answers against the imperialist forces, and their outcomes at the present such as the Kurdish Question or the political uncertainty in some North Africa countries.
