Matus comes from Slovakia, where his interest in human rights (concerning Roma community) came out of perceived awkward absence of erased realities combined with disoriented attemtps at forming identities. In Berlin, he was confronted by various forms of oprressive ideologies in and outside the queer spheres. He developed an interest in non-European perspectives to counter the dominant narrative. He studied Arabic Studies, volunteered in Palestine and became an activist in Berlin. Besides the Middle East, Matus has been interested in the articulation and various practices of Tibetan Buddhism in the West, particularly the new wave of Queer POC Dharma teachers.
