Matty earned his BA in Hispanic & Lusophone Studies from King's College London, studying abroad at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In his final year he focused on the history of cultural exchange between Africa and Latin America, and the politics and cultural history of Brazilian popular music. In addition to further exploring cultural, social and political connections in the Atlantic world, Matty hopes to study the global histories of anti-colonial and anti-imperialist movements and role of culture as a means of resistance.
