Emily Jean Learman

Emily graduated from the University of Michigan in 2019 with a B.A. in History and German. During her undergraduate degree she spent two months living in beautiful Dresden, where she fell in love with German culture. After graduation she completed an internship with the U.S. State Department in Kraków, Poland. In Kraków Emily discovered a passion for diplomacy, learned a bit of Polish, and ate too many Polish baked goods. Moving to Berlin has been a dream of hers for years, and she’s excited to be in such a diverse, unique city. She is hoping to improve her German while in Berlin. Emily chose the Global History program because of her desire to understand the ways in which thoughts and ideas were traded across cultures in the past. She has a particular interest in the creation and evolution of mythology in the ancient Mediterranean. Emily is also interested in memory studies. She is looking forward to learning from an international perspective and working with professors and students from various backgrounds.
