Joseph Mark Fisher
Joseph earned his Bachelor's degree in History and Anthropology from the University of Michigan, with a concentration in 20th century decolonial politics and emerging Third World internationalism. His education was supplemented by his time studying in Cairo, Egypt and Amman, Jordan, as well as journalistic pursuits and political work in Cuba, Vietnam, Lebanon, and the West Bank. His bachelor's thesis focused on the roots of resistance within colonial Italian Libya, and confrontations between growing identities of indigeneity within Sufi Islamic orders and the Italian state's rapid acceleration towards fascism in its colonial possessions.
Within the Global History Master's program, Joseph hopes to investigate questions of identity, state construction, and anticolonial resistance as they present themselves in contemporary politics. He hopes to use this education to pursue a career in international journalism.
