José Manuel Blanco Goldar
I pursued a Bachelor of History at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), which included a year studying abroad at KU Leuven (Belgium), where I worked as a collaborator of the doctoral research project God, the devil, and the nun. Visions as mystical experiences among women in contemplative conventual orders in Spain and the Spanish Netherlands (1660-1700). However, my interests would veer off towards contemporary and political history, and I graduated with a Bachelor thesis analyzing the historical development of the early Sinn Féin party and its role on the fight for Irish independence.
After obtaining a DAAD Scholarship that allowed me to pursue further studies in Germany, I was accepted into the M.A. of Global History. My current interests are the development of nationalism and mass politics in Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the contacts (or the lack of them!) between the movements and individuals involved. However, I hope that the Master will also offer me ample opportunities to research and discover new topics that I would have ignored otherwise, and that allow me to understand just a little bit more this crazy world of ours.
