Iona Fleming

Iona graduated from Durham University with a BA in Japanese Studies in 2022. She specialised in early 20th century (late Meiji and Taisho) Japanese history with particular interest in the themes of gender, labour, reproductive rights and protest. Her thesis was on early 20th century Japanese women's movements and their discourse on birth control and population. After graduating, Iona spent 2 years living and working in Kumamoto, Japan as an English teacher on the JET Programme. She is excited to develop this global perspective further through studying on the MA Global History programme and exploring all of the exciting opportunities Berlin has to offer!
