My undergraduate training was in History and Southeast Asian Studies. Before joining the Global History programme, I was researching on historical building materials for architectural conservation and architectural history. This was in part driven by the desire for History to be relevant and applicable outside the discipline and outside academia. Reflecting on the relevance of History in today's world and on ways of writing histories of buildings that go beyond architectural technicalities or purely socio-cultural dimensions of its occupants have led me to the Global History programme.
