Hilde Petronella Catherine Van der Pluijm

Hilde finished her bachelor's degree at the university of Pisa where she studied Modern and Contemporary History, a program which focuses on the time period ranging from 1500 CE until today. Since the University of Pisa's educational approach is rooted in academic freedom, she was able to engage with various case-studies like 'development' projects in post-colonial Sri Lanka as well as race conflicts and resistance in post-colonial Panama. For her thesis project she investigated the birth of a national identity and its mythicization in the Burgundian lands of the Early Modern age.

At the Global History masters Program she hopes to achieve a more critical historical understanding and challenge Eurocentric historiography. For the upcoming semesters (and her master's thesis) she is interested in specializing in Arabic and Islamic history.
