I completed my BA in International History & Politics at Leeds University in 2010 with a thesis on youth revolt, counter-cultural movements, and left-wing terrorism in West Germany between 1968 and 1978 (and with the FU's own establishment forming part of my historical narrative). However, my interests after ten years spent in the editorial and advertising worlds have shifted somewhat. I'm particularly interested now in questions around gender and masculinity, notions of respectability and deviancy, nationalism and the contract between state and citizen, the legacies of colonialism on the part of the colonizer, as well as how all of these relate to people's ideas of community and "belonging".
