Having dipped a toe into archaeology after high school, I studied History and Politics at the FU between 2017 and 2020. Seeing the Global History program as an opportunity to broaden my knowledge, I have yet to choose an area and period of specialization. So far, my academic pursuits as well as my work experience have led me to nineteenth and twentieth century regions like Europe, the Soviet Union, and the Middle East and North Africa, with topics ranging from environmental history to colonialism to anthropology to popular culture to gender history. Throughout my master’s degree, I am hoping to brush up my Spanish skills and continue working on the basics of the Ukrainian language. I am looking forward to leaving the conception of history I grew up with – with Europe and North America being the prime engines of history – behind me.
