Janina Abts received her BA from Freie Universität Berlin, where she studied history and political science. She spent a semester abroad at Tel Aviv University and interned at the humanitarian affairs department of the German Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Janina´s bachelor thesis analysed the colonial position of power of German women in German-Southwest-Africa. Besides colonialism and nationalism, she is interested in Middle Eastern and African history and the interconnections of political theory and history. She mainly focuses on the 19th and 20th century.

Janina chose the Global History program to broaden her knowledge of non-European history, as well as the different methodological approaches used to analyze the connectedness of historical developments.
