During the Master program, I specialised in 20th century African history, nationalism and gender history. Really, though, I pursued many different lines of enquiry throughout my studies and was introduced to a range of approaches alongside the ‘global’. This diversity was what I liked most about the program. It taught me to appreciate how the questions we ask affect the answers we produce. Now, I try to mobilise that understanding in my work in non-profit communications.

The area of strategic comms is also becoming increasingly evidence-based and encompasses quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. While Global History didn’t teach me anything about spreadsheets, it helped me to grow in confidence as an independent researcher, which is very useful for my day-to-day work.
