I received my Bachelor of Arts in History and Studies in Cinema and Media Culture from the University of Minnesota. During my undergraduate studies I was engaged in projects that challenged the traditional methods of interpreting history. I conducted oral histories of WWII veterans with Professor Malinda Lindquist and assisted director Joey Clark in interpreting and sharing those narratives through performance art. I joined Voice to Visions, a group comprised of faculty, students, and community members that expresses the stories of survivors of genocide and other human atrocities through visual art. I traveled with Voice to Visions to Bogota, Colombia and documented testimonies of “The Mothers of Soacha.” Through conducting oral histories and transcribing interviews, I was viewing history through the lens of those who had lived it. My interest in personal narratives led me to use documentary film as a method of research for my senior thesis.
