Jihan Akrawi was born in Arbil, Iraq and grew up in Germany. She graduated from Ruhr-Universität Bochum with a BA in History and Middle Eastern Studies. Before the Arab uprisings, she spent one year in Egypt, Syria and Iraq, studying different dialects of Arabic and Kurdish. She is interested in global processes and their impact on a regional level, especially in the Middle East. This MA program offers the intertwinement of micro and macro perspectives and, thus, a combination of both her fields of interests - Global History and Middle Eastern Studies.
