"A Tramp Abroad" (2016).  In this acclaimed modern-day take on Mark Twain's classic 1880 novel, director John Hughes follows the adventures of American Andy Dorsey as he travels to Germany to obtain a master's in Global History.  Andy stumbles his way through cultural misunderstandings, engages in the noble struggle with unending German sentences, is shuttled from bureaucratic office to bureaucratic office, and hilarity ensues.  Long-time Hughes fans will not be surprised to find the main character a Chicagoan.  The loving detail given to both Berlin and Chicago (particularly the flashback to Andy's time as a history student at Loyola University Chicago) rivals even that of Hughes's 1986 love letter to the Windy City, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."  Aesthetics alone make the film worth watching.  And yet, the strong message of intercultural understanding and acceptance, the call to know and love each other, is what truly marks this film as an instant classic.
